The forest’s nightmare-Illegal logging

In the article, ”Illegal logging-destroying the last Ancient Forests” (n.d), the author points out that the ancient forests are special and unique habitats for species and home to millions of people. However, there are 80 percent of ancient forests that have been ruined, and much of what remains is threatened by illegal logging. Illegal logging is an overwhelming threat to ancient forests, and illegal logging results in deforestation, the loss of biodiversity, and climate change. In addition, illegal logging makes the legal timber production become weaker and its revenue decelerate quickly. In another article, “Deadly battle with Amazon’s mafia” (2005, para. 8), the author says that “it is estimated that the Amazonian timber trade is worth close to $1bn, and that much of the trade is illegal.” Next, importing and trading illegal logging products is another way to assist the forest crime. In those, the illegal logging problem is not only about the environmental concentration but also related with the global economic damage. Even though the government has some actions to make the deforestation rate lower, the real consequence of stopping deforestation still depends on the commodity price (Colitt, 2007). It means that the Brazil government has to work hard continually to make the actual non-deforestation.

In “Greenpeace Activists Trapped by Loggers in Amazon”, the author states that “Deforestation is responsible for three quarters of Brazil’s greenhouse gas emissions, and makes the country the fourth largest climate polluter in the world” (2007, para.1). First, it damages the environment when illegal logging makes the forests disappear. So we should rebuild the ancient forests and reforest them. Second, illegal logging also impairs the economy; we should stop buying art made by the illegal wood carving, and the governments should develop the policies to protect them, and the more developed countries should help the developing countries to use different energy, and stop using wood for fuel. Third, the government should help the logger find other jobs, and then they will not depend on illegal logging for a living.

First, I think we have enough technological skill to rebuild the forests, and we can help the amount of species become more and more prosperous. The Brazil government claimed that Amazon deforestation has been controlled (Colitt, 2007), but stopping the logging is not enough anymore. We should replenish the forests. In Taiwan, the government builds the forest parks; there are experts to care for the ancient forests, and experts also concentrate on fostering the forests. Therefore, if someone wants to enter the forests, they have to get admission. I think this would be an appropriate way for Brazil’s forests. The experts also can help the endangered species to survive and live in the Amazon. Not every species can restore itself and breed actively by itself.

Second, the governments, like France, UK, Belgium, and Netherlands, should stop allowing the importation to get the wood arts or furniture from illegal loggers (Wikipedia, n.d). And they also should ban the people who buy these. If there is no one who wants or can buy them, mostly loggers will not cut down the trees. And the Brazilian government can develop the new species for trees that can grow up fast or find a new way to improve the growing of trees, and use them to make the necessary wood products. Some countries have an illegal logging problem because of using the wood for fuel. I think that the developed countries should help these countries find the substitute energy resource, instead of cutting trees for fuel. The deforestation is not just a problem in the countries that have the ancient forests, but also the issue about whole world, so the developed countries should help the developing countries in the technology and finance. Buying the timber from illegal logging is also crime; it helps that illegal loggings occur continually. I think that illegal logging also includes the illegal transport and export. The loggers avoid the tax and other charges. We shouldn’t buy the illegal wood also will allow us to save money, because the cost in environment that we pay will be more than that of using the wood.(Cowell, 2005) The government can make protective taxes or make economic policies to reduce illegal logging’s transport to different areas, or put the certificate on the illegal timbering. I think it is an appropriate way to prevent illegal logging from damaging the international timber trades.

Third, I think Brazil’s government can help the people change their jobs from illegal logging to other jobs that don’t hurt the environment. If the government helps people to live without depending on logging, the condition will improve quickly and easily. Only a powerful government can lead the people acts to doing right things in the right ways. People may work in illegal logging, because they are earning the income to support the family. I think the government can develop alterative ways to help people earn money; furthermore, the government also can put some punishment on the illegal loggers. The Brazilian government can also change the energy to let people use it; it should know the people’s need and help them solve the problems of living. Avoid any way to use the wood, and then make the ancient forests live continually. If there is no need for the woods, the amount of wood require will decrease.

Some people think we still have many forests; in fact, we don’t. “Over the past 30 years 15% of the Brazilian Amazon has been completely destroyed, reaching over 590,000 square kilometers- an area larger than France” (The Amazon rainforest: history, 2001). Some people think we can just stop illegal logging, but I think it is not sufficient, and we have to compensate the mistake we did. It is the reason why rebuilding is important. Because we already have lost so much forest, it also made the wounds to the environment. We can do something more for the hurtful forests and inhabitants.

In conclusion, we all know the serious damage done by illegal logging; besides just stopping, we should do more things to recompense. In addition, we still have to ban illegal logging totally. We can follow the protection organizations’ steps continually, and the ancient forests should be renewed. Humans can discover ways to make the species exist continuously. After the basic work to forbid illegal logging, I state that we have some advanced work to do. We can act in both passive ways, like forbidding illegal logging, and optimistic ways, like rebuilding the ecosystem, at the same time. The actions of protecting the ancient forests are not the only responsibility for the country that has the ancient forests, because the environment belongs to everyone. If the environment fights back one day, I think it is also assumed by everyone.

Wal-Mart Near Our Living Life

Wal-Mart Near Our Living Life

Wal-Mart is a popular big supermarket in America. “Wal-Mart is one of the most impressive success stories in the history of business” (Locke, 2004, para.4). You can see the sign about Wal-mart everywhere in America, and we all know that Wal-Mart has an important place in the grocery marketing (USA TODAY, 2003). Wal-Mart has the unbelievable low price, and gives more nice value to customers. Moreover, it also brings some issues and problems. Some people don’t agree that low price in Wal-Mart is a good and right thing.

In my opinion, I don’t feel that Wal-Mart gives us negative influences. There are some views to explain my positions.

First, Wal-Mart gives the customers the lowest price to choose the goods (Locke, 2004). It is a good and important thing to the customer. Because of the low price, more people can afford the living requirements, and can have better living quality. No one wants to buy the more expensive goods, and low prices help every family to save more money to do other things or buy the different higher price things that they want or choose (Hoenig, 2004).

Second, the big supermarket also creates a lot of opportunities for working. “In 2005, Wal-Mart created 125,000 U.S jobs, and is continuously adding thousands each month” (Hoenig, 2004, para.16). Big businesses usually give more job opportunities, and it is an optimistic situation to society to make more of the workless to find the jobs. The higher employment rate also can cut down the social security problems. We should pleasure to see this condition that Wal-Mart opens in our town, instead of stopping them and preventing them from being in our life.

Some people may state that Wal-Mart earns much money, and then it still doesn’t help the finance of government (Auxier, quoted in Jacobs, 2005). I don’t feel it is a serious problem and destroys the selling feat. Government can’t just depend on the enterprises to earn money or improve the economic condition. Some people are afraid that Wal-Mart makes other stores have to close and destroys their business (Jacobs, 2005). But I consider that other stores can change their selling pattern to sell something that we can’t find in Wal-Mart. Even though Wal-Mart has a lot of living commodities, there are many special stores and fresh or alien food that can’t be substituted. So not all stores will be damaged.

In my conclusion, I believe and confirm that Wal-Mart gives us a better and more convenient life. Besides, it is also the smart seller to sell this amount of commodities to the residents (USA TODAY, 2003). I think it is a nice thing that there are many Wal-Marts near our living place.

The forest’s nightmare-Illegal logging

Argument essay

In the article ”Illegal logging-destroying the last Ancient Forests” (n.d), the author points out that the ancient forests are special and unique habitats for species and home to millions of people. However, there is 80 percent of ancient forests that have been ruined, and much of what remains is threatened by illegal logging. In those, the illegal logging problem is not only about the environmental concentration but also related with the global economic damage. In fact, the government also has some achievements in which the deforestation rate of the Amazon rain forests appeared to fall down gradually. Compared to the previous years, the average which was cut has decreased recently.

In “Greenpeace Activists Trapped by Loggers in Amazon” (2007), the author states that “Deforestation is responsible for three quarters of Brazil’s greenhouse gas emissions, and makes the country the fourth largest climate polluter in the world” (2007, para. 1). Some people think we still have many forests; in fact, we don’t. Some people think we can just stop illegal logging, but I think it is not enough, and we have to make up the mistake we did. It is the reason rebuilding is important.

In conclusion, we all know the serious damage done by illegal logging; besides just stopping, we should do more things to compensate. In addition, we still have banned illegal logging totally. We can follow the protection organizations step continually, and the ancient forests should be renewed. Humans can discover ways to make the species exist continuously. How about illegal logging

How about illegal logging

In Colitt’s (2007) article entitled “Amazon deforestation drops sharply”, he points out that the deforestation rate of the Amazon rain forests appeared to fall down gradually. Compared to the previous years, the square miles which were cut decreased recently. It is positive news, but the real celebration has to depend on the grain price becoming lower. He states the high grain and commodity prices make the farmers enlarge their land to fit the market’s need and chop down the ancient forests to agricultural land. The Brazilian government developed the polices to defend the ancient forest, decreasing the illegal logging. Although the deforestation rate has improved, the government still has a long way to go.

It is clear that the article reflected the present condition honestly. The author claimed the government worked hard and made the deforestation rate drop. I think this is real exciting news, but we can’t satisfy this progress and just keep the situation. I believe we still have many things to improve, because the problem of illegal logging is not solved completely and happens in these times. I cheer for the good news of the article; moreover, there are some ideas we can concern about illegal logging. There are three directions presented my for ideas.

First, we still must carefully make the deforestation rate less. We can’t be happy to stop protecting the ancient forest. It is better if we can make illegal logging disappear totally, even though it require to spend much human resources or even the finances. Many problems we have to meet when we have to stand up to ban illegal logging, like international trading, force, and the country need to be willing by itself, but I think we all know deforestation is harmful and we should support the forests and do something. For example, don’t buy the new paper instead of using used paper. We may just be able to do a little thing, but it is still helpful.

Second, we are all concerned about endangered species. The article, “Illegal logging-destroying the last Ancient” (2007, para. 2) says that “its effects include forestation, the loss of biodiversity and fuelling climate change”. I think we have lost many resources in the Ancient forests already. Maybe we should replenish the environment; on the other hand, prohibit illegal logging. If the situation of illegal logging can be controlled, we also want the species to be able come back and keep the biodiversity just like before. It is a positive way to be for our Amazon forests. We not only protect them, but also rebuild them.

Third, it is worth encouragement that the policies can work efficiency and completely. However, the government has to keep the price of commodities and grain stable. The price and the expanding of the planted areas are relative and influence each other. I think the government can use the public power to make the price stable; for example give the prize to the farmers who cooperate with the police, or give finance aid. The government should give some favorable treatment; I believe the people will be willing to follow the policies.

In conclusion, these days, we know that protecting the ancient forests will make some nice use. Also, we still have a long way to progress to improve our situation. In addition, we follow the protecting organization step continually, and the ancient forests will be renewed. Humans have to discover ways to make the species exist incessantly. After the basic work to forbid illegal logging, I state we have some advanced work to do.

Illegal logging- a nightmare for the Amazon

Illegal logging- a nightmare for the Amazon

In the article ”Illegal logging-destroying the last Ancient Forests”, the author points out that the ancient forests are special and unique habitats for species and home to millions of people. However, there is 80 percent of ancient forests that have been ruined, and much of what remains is threatened by illegal logging. Illegal logging is a overwhelming threat to ancient forests, and illegal logging results in deforestation, the loss of biodiversity, and climate change. In addition, Illegal logging makes the legal timber production become weaker and its revenue decelerate quickly. Next, importing and trading illegal logging products is another way to assist the forest crime. Now the policies about protecting ancient forests are not developed enough to keep it safe completely.

It is clear that the author condemns the illegal logging seriously. We can’t ignore illegal logging anymore. The author has different views to blame for this action. In my opinions, I think it is complete and true; the illegal logging needs to be scolded and banned. Therefore, the government of every country should help to solve this immediately. There are three reasons presented that follow my ideas.

First, many species’ habitats are the Amazon ancient forests; the illegal logging has made their living area disappear directly. And then many species will be extinct soon. The Amazon forest is a specific area to get research from and know about our Earth’s growing. Beside, there is an important method to keep nature's balance. Ancient forests not only are vital habitats, but also keep the ecologic circle working. So we can not imagine how many species have disappeared and how valuable a resource we have lost in the Amazon forests.

Second, the timber producing countries have become weaker because of illegal logging. Their own trades are invaded, but they don’t have the ability to reduce these crimes. From the bank’s information, illegal logging has made the legal timber production industry lose millions of dollars in revenue. The trades are not stable. I think we can’t trade with the illegal logging, and cut down the trading amount with them. If there are no business opportunities, I think the deforestation rate will be decelerate. On the other hand, the countries, by producing timber, become poor and can’t afford the expense, or they don’t even have income to keep a normal country working.

Most of all, the policies about banning illegal logging have to be administered completely, and the related organization should supervise the working of the policies. If the protecting policies perform availably, the solution will get worse. Both environment and economy are destroyed by illegal logging. The world leaders should contact together, like making the union laws, giving the finance help, even the force aid, and make the countries that need help change and become stronger and more powerful; moreover, don’t trade with the illegal loggers.

In conclusion, illegal logging involves the problem of climate change, species extinction, and economic system. It is a huge issue that we have to consider to make urgent actions. In fact, the ancient forests of natural resources should be preserved for people in the future. I hope that people and the natural forests can exist together and solve the illegal logging problem soon.

Damages from the global warming

Damages from the global warming

From the article "Global warming threatens if species", the author points out that many species will be extinct soon because of climate change. The author thinks the best way to solve the problem is to find other suitable areas for the endangered species, or the conclusion will be complete and real. There are three reasons that make species disappear: habitat destruction, invasions by alien species and overexploitation by human. Moreover, the author assumes reassembling the species may be possible if the climate changes slowly. The author also asks the question of where we can find those specific areas? However, the author says that it is not every species that has to emigrate, and smaller new areas hold fewer species. Finally, the author states that we should stop the climate from getting worse immediately.

It is very clear about the damages that are from global warming, because the effects are just around us. The author gives us many valid points, and I agree completely with the author that the species are becoming extinct. Therefore, the global warming is the most serious of environmental issues. There are some reasons presented that follow and explain my viewpoints.

First, it is worrisome that the species will become less and disappear, because the biodiversity can balance the environment. The environmental balance is destroyed by the species extinction, and the global warming makes the amount of animals or plants lose their habitats, like polar bears. When we lose the special species once, it is very difficult or even impossible to reassemble and rebuild the ecologic circle.

Second, the warming even harms human life in this day. The global warming is the root of the climate change. There are many environmental disasters that have taken place in recent years. In my country, Taiwan, the typhoons are stronger and even invade in fall. Besides, thousands of people die or lost their property because of the typhoons. Human is also a part of the ecologic circle; global warming also ruins our lives.

Third, the global warming also makes the living condition change. The ice melting floods the lower coastlines and smaller islands; in addition, the desert regions become larger and the produce also can't grow any more. The food will not be enough to feed people and animals one day, and starvation will happen more often. The area where people live will become ocean and desert, and it will be so horrible.

In conclusion, the problem has to be solved and this can't be postponed. Maybe we can't imagine the further picture, if the problem it's solved, but it really connects with people's lives. In fact, I think the government should stand up an figure out the correct way to stop global warming, so that we can live on a safe and beautiful earth.
